This medium sized wooden cheese press holds curds from 5-6 liters of cows milk and is used for pressing Feta and Halloumi cheese at home. Our Feta and Halloumi cheese presses came about after trying and failing to find presses that would stand up to regular use.
Expensive plastic frames broke and melted in the wash. So strong non-tainting Kahikatea wood was the answer. We wanted something that would last, and we're still using one of the first prototypes of this frame seven years later, and it gets used every couple of weeks.
These presses are made to be lined with cheesecloth, filled with curds and pressed with a pot of water or other improvised weights on the top. The frame then sits on a cake rack where whey drains away. The frame makes thick squares of cheese which can be cut into chunks and stored. Measurements 280mm L x 185mm W x 65mm D.
