Wax your homemade cheese with our 500-gram bags of natural NZ Beeswax. We have found beeswax to be a very effective method of sealing hard cheeses during maturation. A good thick coat of beeswax works well and does not crack.
We used to sell red paraffin wax for coating cheese but we didn't like the idea of coating our lovely homemade cheeses in a petroleum based product so we started experimenting with using beeswax. The beeswax imparts a slight honey flavour to the cheeses which is not at all unpleasant or overpowering, just subtle. A 1kg round of cheese uses up to 100 grams of wax which can be reused after thorough reheating. Each bag of beeswax pellets comes with full instructions for waxing your homemade cheese.
